What does it mean to inspire a child?

Sometimes, it is as simple as taking the time to listen. Sometimes, it is sharing knowledge, asking questions, encouraging curiosity, or helping a young person understand that their voice matters.

During INUWA’s school programme in Uganda, we had the opportunity to spend time with children in the community, engaging them through learning, sensitisation, conversations and activities designed to encourage them to think about themselves and the world around them.

For us, the programme was not only about what we could teach. It was also about creating moments where children could feel seen, heard and encouraged to dream beyond what they already know.

That is why the word INSPIRE carries so much meaning in this photograph.

The hands raised together represent connection, strength and possibility. The placard is a simple reminder of what we hope our work leaves behind long after a programme ends: a spark of curiosity, a new idea, greater confidence and the belief that every child has something valuable to contribute.

Our volunteers may have arrived with lessons to share, but the children had lessons for us too. Their energy, questions, creativity and openness reminded us that meaningful change often begins with small moments of connection.

At INUWA, we believe that education and community engagement should do more than provide information. They should create opportunities for people to discover their potential and become inspired to participate in shaping their own communities.

Because sometimes, one conversation can spark a question.

One lesson can open a new possibility.

And one moment of encouragement can inspire a child to believe that they can make a difference.

This is what we mean when we say: INSPIRE.
